History

One Manufacturing began when long time pro snowboarder/board designer Matt Cummins and his friends starting making waxes in Jay's garage. That was 1986-87. Matt and Jay had just made their first snowboards and they thought why not make some wax. The fist wax was a couple bars of surf wax called, “Sap Wax” due to the Fir sap they formulated it with. The "One Ball Jay" name was from the guys at Gnu Snowboards, (Mike Olson and Pete Saari) when the story of Jay's accident with a skateboard was told. For years the brand was called “ONEBALLJAY”. The “JAY” was dropped eventually to ONEBALL.

Then the Ball was dropped to ONE MFG and the Red Ball icon was introduced.

Matt’s family opened up a specialty snowboard and skate shop in Tacoma, WA in 1988 called Northwest Snowboards. A room in the back of the shop was used for storage, wax production, traction pads, and an occasional surfboard lay-up. Paul Ferrel (Mervin, Bent Metal Bindings product designer) worked at the shop and developed ONE MFG’s first snowboard stomp pad’s called “Atomic Fern”. Paul also helped pour the first wax before Matt brought in his high school friend and shop employee Bryan Rushforth. Bryan took wax production and shipping to his Mom’s basement before the wax production was moved to a shed built on Matt’s folks spare lot under a skateboard ramp. Matt turned pro snowboarding in the early 90's and handed out wax throughout his travels and the brand grew. Snoqualmie Pass, White Pass, Crystal Mt. and Mt. Baker are the local stomping grounds around their factory.

One Mfg has developed some of the best snowboard and ski waxes in the world. Winning more events and podiums at races than imaginable. Mt. Baker Banked Slaloms, X-Games, and Olympic medals, Boarder crosses, Big Mountain events, etc.
